Sign Kemba Walker

The New York Knicks will be in the sweepstakes to sign a big name free agent this offseason. The best part is, they can use the old reliable “New York City” card to make it work.

With Jimmy Butler likely to stay in Philly and Kyrie Irving likely to stay in Boston, that opens the door for the Knicks to go after a free agent.

With arguably the two best staying in the Atlantic Division, the Knicks will actually need to sign a free agent to stand any chance.

That is where current Charlotte Hornets guard Kemba Walker comes in. It might be difficult to pry away a franchise player like what Kemba is to the Hornets, but this would make sense.

The Hornets already didn’t trade Kemba last year when they could have, so it is obvious they do not want to lose him, but the Knicks can’t give up.

Kemba Walker is famous for leading UConn to the NCAA title in Basketball and going undefeated in tournament play in the 2011 season.

It was an incredible run and the bigger the stage got, the better Kemba Walker got.

The same can even be said about Kemba now that he has been in the NBA ever since then. He is off to his career best start this season, right before he hits free agency.

He sits (at the time of this writing) third in the NBA in total points. He is a great player, who has just been around bad Charlotte Hornets/Bobcats teams his whole career.

He did lead them to the playoffs once a few seasons back. But, the best part is his New York roots.

He is from New York and was born in the Bronx.

One of his most famous moments was the buzzer beater vs Pittsburgh.

That play, yeah, that was in the Garden.

There is not a stage this man can’t handle, he will be just fine in New York.

If the Hornets plummet down the stretch and Kemba wants out, the Knicks need to sign him.

He will be a great leader for all these young guards the Knicks have and a veteran the Knicks need on the floor.

He is their best fit in free agency. It is unlikely it all comes together, but it is not unrealistic to think Kemba won’t come home and wear the blue and orange.

He could be a Knick this time next year.
