New York Giants: Offense suddenly finds life en route to win in Houston
The New York Giants needed some things to fall their way to help them win on Sunday, but a new-found and deeper offense then what we have seen is what really got it done.
The New York Giants are three games in and have yet to play in a game decided by more 10 points. They play tough every game and were finally able to get over the hump on Sunday in the same state they took a loss last weekend.
Not only does Eli Manning remain perfect against the Texans in his career, a team who has only been in the NFL two years longer than him, he actually got production from his supporting cast to spark a new life into him.
Every time we seem to doubt Eli Manning he makes us question it. After throwing for almost 300 yards, he did what he has done time and time again, lead his team to victory in a much win game.

That is the part of Eli’s craft that has gotten away from him the last few years. However, in a game were falling 0-3 would have all but been a dagger to what could be a good season, Eli managed to play well enough to get the Giants a win and much better 1-2 record.
However, what really did the Giants in for this one was the random production from other weapons on offense.
The Giants opened up the playbook for Saquon and it paid dividends. He lineup as a wideout, took carries out of the backfield, and once again dazzled his way to the end zone.
The Giants got creative with Barkley in a smart way on Sunday. Instead of relying on him to be the only player Eli has time to look for, Saquon was able to be just another great weapon.
Odell Beckham Jr, who was a non-factor in the loss to the Cowboys, was simply the OBJ the Giants paid the big bucks to. He was one of the best receivers in all of the NFL this week and that is exactly what he needs to be.
Long yard catches, making every catch, keeping drives alive, Odell is capable of doing it all and did on Sunday.
But, most of us already know that the offense will rely on Eli, Odell, and Saquon. They are the names and they are stars. If they click on all cylinders, they will be poised to do big things.
So, what really seemed to throw the Texans off was incorporating other players not named those three into the game plan.
The Giants threw caution into the wind by not starting Ereck Flowers, so that liability was already gone for them and something that Houston should not have wanted to see.
Also, as talented as Sterling Shepard is, and as much as he has done in his career, his one TD over 80 yards receiving game came out of nowhere.
The Texans or any Giants opponents’ objective is to stop Odell. If the Giants fail to respond to a team fulfilling that objective, which they have shown in the past, they will lose.
However, on this Sunday in Houston, the home team did not stop Odell. The Texans couldn’t contain anyone and the Giants passing attack had a field day.
Getting Shepard involved can help Odell get involved which helps the whole offense be better and have more threats.
Also, shout out to Rhett Ellison. Evan Engram is another Giant with a big role on the offense and he went down early with an injury.
Ellison filled in admirably being that classic tight end that Eli loves. Ellison’s TD sparked the Giants and showed that they might actually have reliable talent beyond the main starters.
Ellison’s game was important and showed the Giants can now be creative with him and Engram when he comes back.
The Giants’ defense was solid again. Their defense is not the problem though and never was so there is not much to explain here.
The defense forced some smart turnovers and bent but did not break in the second half when the Texans showed some life.
If the Giants can click on all cylinders and be that creative again this season, much like they were in Houston, they will win plenty more games.
The Giants finally played a gritty game in which they won this year. Take it with a pinch of salt if you must. It was a win vs a non-conference opponent.
But, the Giants are now 1-2, they still have five division games left, and showed just how much potential this offense has.
They also showed they can beat a bad team. That goes a long way down the road where the Giants’ schedule gets rougher towards the winter months.
Giants had a solid team win where everything went right. They might need a to rattle off a few more games like this to be taken seriously, but it has to start somewhere.
They still sit only a game out of the division lead in the way too early to even think about playoff race.
