Chad  Hansen

More from Empire Writes Back

Chad Hansen is an interesting case. He was only drafted last year and Mike Maccagnan doesn’t typically give up on draft picks that quickly.

He flashed at the end of 2017 with nine catches for 94 yards in the mop up portion of the season.

Hansen had a solid spring and had higher expectations coming into training camp.

It’s not that Hansen has been bad, it’s that he hasn’t been anything. Nothing at all.

There haven’t been any particularly bad plays, nor have we heard his name called for a good reason.

In the three preseason games to date, we haven’t heard Chad Hansen’s name at all. I personally don’t recall hearing it once.

The biggest problem for Hansen has been Tre McBride. Strictly based on performance he has seriously outplayed Hansen. It really hasn’t been close.

Mike Maccagnan will have to decide whether or not Hansen deserves another season based on what he has seen. It would be a leap of faith based on the eye test.

Hansen absolutely could use a huge game on Thursday night. If he wants any chance to remain, it is essential.
