Tre  McBride

More from Empire Writes Back

Tre McBride spent time with the Titans and the Bears before the Jets signed him to the practice squad last December.

He has been with the team all through training camp and has put in a nice performance vying for a place in the wide receiver room.

Nobody is saying he has done enough to unseat one of the top four, but he has performed well enough to earn one of the last spots.

McBride made two quality receptions for first downs in the game against the Redskins. He established a good rapport with Sam Darnold.

That’s always a good sign when trying to make a team with a new quarterback.

He didn’t record a reception against the Giants but don’t take a lot from that. The bulk of the time was spent with the starters and McBride is not going to crack that group.

McBride, however, has certainly outperformed Chad Hansen and ArDarius Stewart. Mike Maccagnan’s history is not to cut a draft pick after only one season but he may need to make an exception here.

McBride has earned a spot based on his time on the field.
