New York Giants: Three notes from first three preseason games
Still the man
This might go without saying, but Saquon Barkley only getting a very small stage to show what he can really do vs NFL talent this preseason is absolutely no reason for concern.
The New York Giants might need a lot of luck and a feel-good story to have solid depth behind him, but it still does not matter that Barkley will likely miss more than half of the preseason.
Barkley played well in his first few drives vs the Browns. Despite only getting a few reps and only having one breakout play, Barkley is the guy for the Giants.

The Giants should only start panicking if he misses time in the regular season, but that is not likely.
For most of the Giants team, the preseason has been used to learn the new system and to get back on track after losing a lot of reasons to try last year.
Really the only thing that mattered is literally playing together and getting chemistry back.
Sure, it stinks Saquon missed all that but he was not drafted by the Giants to be a project, he was brought in the make an immediate impact.
The Giants needed a running back to be NFL right away. Even before the preseason, Saquon was. That is why him missing time is not a reason to panic.
New York would have gone any other player that early in the draft if they felt they had the time or desire to wait on a player to be the next star.
Barkley is the next star despite barely doing anything in the first three games. Wayne Gallman has turned some heads and might even take the backup running back spot, but Barkley not being out there was still noticeable.
He played what? A series against the Browns in Week 1? Yet still, what he did with his first impression was so impactful that him being gone since then was still noticeable.
Him missing time does not matter. He will be a difference maker right away. The hype around him alone is a telltale sign of that.
