Quarterbacks

More from Empire Writes Back

This one is pretty straightforward. We all know that neither of these two quarterbacks are going anywhere.

Sam Darnold is going to be here a long time. If he isn’t it will go down as one of the epic fails in Jets draft history. He is staying put.

Josh McCown is also going to be here in 2018. There are no guarantees that he will start any games, but he will be in a Jets uniform.

His contract guarantees $10 million this season. That is not a hit the team can take on if they were to release him.

McCown will also serve as a mentor for Sam Darnold. It may not be from under center, but he will prove to be excellent counsel to the Jets young first round pick.

There is a narrative among some Jets fans that Teddy Bridgewater is going to swoop in and take the starting quarterback job.

Folks, no he is not. He may remain on the team if the Jets aren’t able to trade him, but don’t look for him to be active every week. McCown will be the primary backup.

The Jets should take what they can get for Bridgewater, but it seems like the team wants more than backup compensation in return.

If the Jets need an emergency quarterback, they will have quarterback turned wide receiver Terrelle Pryor on the roster.
