The New York Red Bulls are heading into the new field in DC on Wednesday night for some mid-week MLS action. However, for what is rare in such a team game, all eyes will be on just one man: Bradley Wright Phillips.

The New York Red Bulls will look to keep rolling on Wednesday night as they are set to square up with a long-time conference rival DC United in the Atlantic Cup.

However, in what is rare in such a team game, all eyes will be on Bradley Wright-Phillips as he is trying to get his 100th league goal.

The Red Bulls are the epitome of teamwork. This season their chemistry and experimental success have been nothing short of spectacular. But on Wednesday night in the nation’s capital, it will be all about “BWP.”

More from Empire Writes Back

Scoring 100 goals in MLS play is almost unheard of. It takes skill, loyalty to the league, and a lot of minutes to be able to reach that feat.

In MLS history, where a lot of players come and go, BWP looks to become just the 11th person to ever do it.

He also has the chance to become the fastest player to ever hit that immortal mark.

All the other starts seem to be aligning too because if he is able to strike one through during Wednesday’s match it will be just a few days after his five-year anniversary of signing with New York.

In his career, since it began almost five years ago to the day, Wright-Phillips has been the top guy and an electrifying player for the Red Bulls.

He has scored on almost every stage of his career with them too. Regular season MLS, MLS Playoffs, Open Cup’s, Champions League, you name it, he has come through.

An integral part about this accomplishment is that all of them have been with RBNY and he has the opportunity to do it while appearing in less than 200 matches for them. That basically means he is almost an automatic goal, whenever he steps on the pitch.

So, Wednesday night’s match is not only important for the Red Bulls and their quest to win the Cup this season but it is important for the game of soccer in general. BWP is already a legend to Red Bull faithful but his legend can grow even larger.

However, that 100 goal mark, with many more to come, will cement him into soccer immortality. To score 100 goals, in less than 200 matches, in any league is quite the feat.

So, if we fail to see his famous heel kicks in DC on Wednesday, in a match where he could see limited action, he will have two straight chances to score his 100th goal in Red Bulls arena the coming weekends.

Next: RBNY's talent trumps all else

He already said he did not want his 100th to be on a penalty so perhaps destiny will make it happen at Red Bulls arena. But Wright-Phillips almost accidentally finds the back of the net sometimes so you’ll just have to tune Wednesday in to see!
