More trouble for New York Knicks legend Charles  Oakley who was arrested in Las Vegas for allegedly cheating at a casino game.

Things have not been going so well for New York Knicks legend Charles Oakley as of late. We all followed the incident between Oakley and owner James Dolan that was settled, in part, with Oakley being banned from Madison Square Garden.  He has never lost the support of the Garden faithful; fans chanted his name as he was being handcuffed and removed from the building.

Oakley is back in the news again, this time from the left coast. As reported by ESPN, Charles Oakley was arrested at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. He was accused of adding or reducing to a wager after the outcome was known. In layman’s terms, he allegedly tried remove a $100 chip from the board after he realized he would lose his bet in the game.

If convicted, Oakley is subject to 1-6 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine for the Class B felony. His civil suit against Dolan for defamation and libel is ongoing.

Some of our younger readers may not remember much about Oakley, so take a look. Young readers can educate themselves, and readers of my generation or older can think back to much better times at MSG. Enjoy!

Next: Knox looking good so far

Oakley will always be remembered for the heart he brought to the team. Patrick Ewing may have been the big star but Oakley was the heart. He was the working man that everyone grew to love. This is back when defense was more physical than it is today, and no opponent could go down the lane without feeling Oakley’s presence. Young fans, ask your older siblings/family members about what it was like to watch #34 do his job.

In ten years with the Knicks, Oakley shot nearly 50% from the floor (.499) and averaged ten rebounds per contest. He played 33 minutes per game and that increased to 35.5 minutes in the playoffs. Oakley also averaged a double-double in the playoffs (points and rebounds), but did a great deal that didn’t appear in the boxscore.

We shall see how this story turns out.
