Brooklyn Nets: It’s complicated, but Nets should risk it and go for Jabari Parker

There might be absolutely no correlation between Jabari Parker and the Brooklyn Nets. But, since free agency started the Nets have barely done a thing. They should risk it and go for Parker.

I understand that this is pretty far fetched but the Brooklyn Nets should go after Jabari Parker. The former second overall pick is still somehow a free agent and the Nets can afford him.

The Bucks do not really need him but are in the best situation with him because Parker is a restricted free agent. Milwaukee has offered him a one year offer which he has yet to accept. It is all customary stuff and complicated. However, noteworthy.

The main reason why the Nets should go after him is that he is desperate at this point. He cannot keep sky rocketing his own value where there is clearly not a lot of interest.

Parker is injury prone and has barely been able to even tap the ceiling of his potential. But, it is still there and even with shaky knees and two ACL surgeries, Parker is still only 23 years old.

The Brooklyn Nets are agreeing to terms with a buyout with Dwight Howard and that opens up them some cap space for this year and a ton for next.

But that is just it. The Nets are clearly not big spenders this season and are still on track for the rebuild. Milwaukee’s offer to keep him was only for one year and barely any money.

The Nets would be smart to give him a one year prove it type deal. Something that the Bucks would not match but also not make the Nets responsible for him for that long.

A one year deal with an exuberant amount of money makes a lot of sense to bring in Parker and convince him to come to Brooklyn. Parker, deep down inside is still that same kid and player who was highly touted out of Duke and making magazine covers as a high schooler.

He can still ball. It just so happens that nothing has really worked out for him in Milwaukee. He has the potential to develop his game even more. We all know Kenny Atkinson’s specialty is development so he can find a use for Parker. Effort is another thing Coach will get out of him.

The Nets and Parker would both be winners on a short-term prove it deal.

Parker would be motivated to play well and adapt to a system if he can get a big payday one day and the Nets can potentially get a steal of a free agent who can help catapult them into contention in the coming seasons.

It is odd to me that Parker is still a free agent but the Nets should go after him. The Bucks don’t seem like they want to spend a lot of money on him and the Nets’ money has to go somewhere.

Let’s not forget how much potential the former number two overall pick has. Despite the injury proness, he can still shoot and be a good player to come off the bench for a Nets team that needs depth and talent.

If Parker can stay healthy he will be productive and the Nets will get another young player trying to learn their way either again or for the first time. These are the kind of patch pieces to Nets have been getting.

This is a risk but a very minimal one. It is foolproof and will not throw the rebuild off course. Jabari Parker is going under the radar in this free agency period. A lot worse players are getting bigger deals than he would get at this point.

The Brooklyn Nets, despite the cat and mouse game they would need to play with Milwaukee to land him should go after Jabari Parker. Maybe Brooklyn can be the place where he finally thrives and lives up to his immense potential.

We know the Nets are waiting things out to get their next star but they need to do something. This can be a smart basketball move.
