With the MLB trade deadline rapidly approaching, it is time to think who the New York Yankees should go after to bolster their rotation. There is one ex-New York pitcher that comes to mind but should the Yanks go after him?

The New York Yankees are officially a good baseball team. There is no more a reason to believe this team cannot win it all. However, despite it all, they still have a dire need for pitching. Although a lot of the bigger names might come with a hefty price, not all will.

One player, who is already on his second team this season, is Matt Harvey. He spent most of the year with the Mets before a drama-filled road-trip saw him get traded to the Reds.

The Reds are not contending and did bring Harvey in to help them down the road but rather brought him in to fill a need and try to raise his trade value. They are doing just that.

The Reds and Yankees are in opposite Leagues and are going in opposite directions. They are very appropriate trade partners.

As crazy as it sounds, as a patch player to play the next two months and help add depth, Matt Harvey might work for the Yankees.

In his last three starts, Harvey has only given up three runs. And since his arrival in Ohio, he has drastically lowered his ERA. He is pitching well despite not going super deep into games and all the physical setbacks.

However, that is all the Yankees need. They only need a pitcher to come in at the bottom of the rotation pitch around five or six innings, maybe give up a few runs before turning it over to the bullpen.

In all but two stars in Cincy, Harvey has gone at least 5 innings. That is perfect for what the Yankees need. Even just a little safer.

There are downfalls to him though. He is obviously a drama queen and a head case. He might single-handedly bring down the locker room morale.

One of the biggest reasons why Harvey is thriving in Ohio, at least seemingly, is because there is little pressure for the media and the fans. In New York, he was under a microscope but the small Cincinnati market is helping him now.

He proved that he can pitch in New York, arguably, earlier in his career, he was taking the city over. Since his injury he proved he cannot pitch in New York.

Yes, the Yankees are an even bigger audience than the Mets. Right now, the Bronx Bombers have the bigger stage. However, not that he has had time away he might be willing to give it a shot again.

The price for Harvey would be cheap too. Perhaps it would only take a one on one deal. Harvey for Clint Frazier, whose value is low right now would be a good person to send off. Or, even Harvey for Estevan Florial.

The latter option is a higher price but if the Yankees are desperate then why not go for that ring and get Harvey.

The Yankees are not out of options. JA Happ is a player who the Yankees can easily get. But, f the return for Harvey is cheaper for them, then it is worth the risk.

When Harvey left the Mets on bad terms it was obvious his days in New York were over. Now, it just seems like his days in Corona Park are over. Harvey has a real shot to be bound for pinstripes.

It might break Mets fans hearts to hear that, especially because Harvey is slowly changing his career around. But, they need to understand that this would make sense.

Plus, the Yankees are likely to not Jacob deGrom or Noah Syndergaard anyway. If the Mets are going to lose someone to the Yankees, they would be lucky it is not even technically from them and only Harvey.

So, should the Yankees go after Matt Harvey? Yes, they should, there is a need for him and what he can provide them will work.

But, will the Yankees go after him? It is unlikely but something they should consider because they need pitching badly and almost anybody with playoff experience would work at this point.
