The New York Knicks night is officially over (unless they trade back in time). The Knicks kept both of their picks and with their second round pick they went with Mitchell Robinson. But, who is Mitchell Robinson?

The New York Knicks took Mitchell Robinson in the second round. If you’ve never heard of Mitchell Robinson, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

Robinson decided to forgo college ball in an effort to prepare for the draft. After committing and then de-committing to Western Kentucky, Robinson spent a year preparing for tonight.

The last time we saw Robinson play was the 2017 McDonalds All-American Game for the top high school talent. In that game, Robinson played only four minutes, but in those four minutes went 3-3 on field goals.

Robinson is a center who is going to make a large impact off the bench, even if he hasn’t played competitive basketball in an entire year. At the moment the Knicks have only two centers on the roster, Enes Kanter (whose contract expires this coming year) and Kyle O’Quinn.

O’Quinn played 18 minutes per game this past season with the Knicks which means Robinson may not get too many minutes immediately.

However, if Kanter ends up asking for too much money and the Knicks decide not to bring him back, Robinson could make a serious impact down the road.

Robinson is a 6’11” 215 pound Center which means he can fight for boards with the rest of them, but it wouldn’t hurt to put on a few pounds. According to ESPN, Robinson was the 11th overall prospect in the class of 2017.

To put that into perspective Robinson was rated above players such as Trae Young, Lonnie Walker, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and others who were all drafted in the first round.

This means Robinson is a serious ball player and will be ready to make an impact when he is given the minutes he needs to thrive.

Next: Kevin Knox over Mikal Bridges and Michael Porter Jr.?

Knicks fans, be ready because this could be the next big man in New York if Enes Kanter goes elsewhere in the off-season of 2019.
