Fan favorite Ronald  Torreyes gets sent back to Triple-A as the New York Yankees recall Clint  Frazier. Now Frazier must show he belongs in Majors full-time.

The New York Yankees recalled outfielder Clint Frazier on Monday. They also sent infielder Ronald Torreyes back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Frazier being called up is due to Brett Gardner having knee problems. Gardner had a MRI Sunday morning which revealed that he had inflammation in his right knee. Manager Aaron Boone doesn’t think that Gardner will have to go on the disabled list and he could be available in an emergency situation for game two of the Yankees doubleheader against the Washington Nationals Monday night.

“We needed to be covered with an extra outfielder so that forced us to make the swap,” Boone told Mike Mazzeo of the New York Daily News. “It was obviously a difficult decision, but we felt like this covers us and makes the most sense for right now.”

Frazier, who joked he was “up for the 26th man of the year” was 3-8 in three games with the Yankees this season. In Triple-A he is hitting .312 with seven home runs, 11 RBIs, 29 runs scored, and a .947 OPS.

Torreyes, who is a fan favorite. had a .323/.343/.415 slash line over 24 games with the Yankees this season. He went 0-3 with a walk in two games since he was called up last week.

It’s no secret that Frazier wants to be in the majors permanently. However with the Yanks having outfielders like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gardner, and Aaron Hicks, there’s no room for Frazier to be there permanently. Now is the time for Frazier to prove that he should be in the majors full-time.

If Frazier plays good enough he might not go back to Triple-A. If he struggles then Torreyes will be called back up or Brandon Drury, who is hitting .360 in Triple-A and wants to be in the majors, will be called up. I think Torreyes, not Drury, would be called up if Frazier were to go back to the minors.

Next: Didi does it all

If the choice were up to Boone as to who to bring up if Frazier went back to the minors, he would choose Torreyes.

“I told (Torreyes) I want him back here, and hopefully that’s sooner rather than later,” Boone told Randy Miller of NJ.com.

So Clint it’s time to show that you belong in the majors, otherwise Torreyes will take your spot.
