Round 2, Pick 45 – G Jevon Carter, West Virginia, Senior

Height: 6’2 | Weight: 205 | Age: 22

Stats: 17.3 PPG, 6.6 APG, 3.0 SPG

TRADE: Knicks acquire the No. 45 pick for cash from the Houston Rockets

This pick is completely opinion based because the Knicks haven’t purchased any second round picks yet, but they surely will. The Rockets don’t want this draft pick because their current focus is on winning now and beating the Western Conference power Golden State Warriors.

More from New York Knicks

This is the pick that finishes the NBA Draft on the right foot for the Knicks. Not only does the team get a natural leader in Jevon Carter but they gain what Trey Burke lacks in one of the most tenacious perimeter defenders in the draft. Learning under the most huggable Huggie Bear at West Virginia made Carter coachable, approachable, and willing to accept any challenge.

West Virginia ran a full court trap and was one of the best in the country when it was running on all cylinders. Carter was strong from start to finish and caused constant on-ball pressure leading to constant turnovers and fastbreak points for the Mountaineers.

Carter will bring that same intensity to the Knicks and with him and Ntilikina on the perimeter, suddenly the Knicks have the makings for strong defensive first and second units.

Scott Perry gets his first chance to draft the players he wants and to build the vision of the Knicks that himself, Steve Mills, and David Fizdale have envisioned since their first press conference.
