New York Giants: Top 3 remaining needs post-NFL Draft
By Sean Dyer
Offensive Tackle
Making Nate Solder the NFL’s highest-paid offensive lineman was a pricey, yet necessary move in rebuilding the New York Giants offensive line. Drafting Will Hernandez in the second round was another step in the right direction. The rebuild, however, is not complete.
The left side of the line is set with Solder and Hernandez, Brett Jones is back to start at center, and free agent acquisition Patrick Omameh and John Jerry should compete for the starting right guard spot. Right tackle, however, is very much up in the air.

After the Giants signed Solder to handle the blindside, it was determined that Ereck Flowers would move to right tackle. Well, it’s hard to tell if Flowers has accepted that reassignment. The former first-round pick has been a no-show at OTAs and it was rumored that the Giants were looking to trade him during the NFL Draft.
Pat Shurmur is not giving up on Flowers just yet but the Giants need to add depth behind him. Flowers improved a bit last year and maybe the move to the right side will help, but there’s a solid chance that he continues to be a human turnstile. New York’s other options at tackle are 2017 undrafted free agent Chad Wheeler and 2017 sixth-round pick Adam Bisnowaty. Wheeler had moments last season where he looked solid, but a tackle will more experience could come in handy for Big Blue.
Oregon’s Tyrell Crosby and Ohio State’s Jamarco Jones were both available in the fifth round and would’ve been my choice instead of RJ McIntosh. However, Dave Gettleman decided that Hernandez was enough of an offensive line upgrade for one draft class. Now, if he’s going to look to the free agent market, his options include Derek Newton, Austin Howard, and Don Barclay.
