OT. Pittsburgh. Brian O'Neill. Scouting Report. 3. player. 31. Pick Analysis

The New York Giants would be smart to add not one, but two offensive linemen in this year’s draft. They should add one interior lineman and one offensive tackle. After drafting Will Hernandez to handle the interior, Big Blue should give Brian O’Neill as a potential right tackle.

O’Neill was a tight end when he first arrived at Pittsburgh (Dave Gettleman mentioned liking Nate Solder out of Colorado because of his past experience as a tight end) and his athleticism stands out as a blocker. He moves well laterally and in space and can get to the second level on screens. He also has long arms which allow him to latch onto defenders and stay on his blocks. O’Neill could use some improved upper body strength and more consistent technique but there’s a lot of potential in this athletic lineman. After watching Ereck Flowers get manhandled by athletic speed rushers, it’ll be nice for Giants fans to see O’Neill be able to stick with them.

Speaking of Flowers, the Giants are reportedly looking to trade him during the draft, which increases the likelihood of Big Blue adding two offensive linemen. I’m not sure who in their right mind would trade for Flowers, but if Gettleman can pull that off, he’ll need to find someone who can compete with Chad Wheeler at right tackle. Hernandez, O’Neill, Solder, and Brett Jones could give the New York Giants four solid offensive linemen to move forward with.
