Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. DL. Sam Houston State. 31. P.J. Hall. 3. player

As the New York Giants transition to defensive coordinator James Bettcher’s 3-4 scheme, their front seven personnel is undergoing some changes. They already shipped out Jason Pierre-Paul (which is how they acquired this draft pick) and brought in Kareem Martin, a 3-4 outside linebacker who has experience in Bettcher’s system. Damon Harrison will have no problem moving to nose tackle as that was his position with the New York Jets and Dalvin Tomlinson will move from defensive tackle to a three technique defensive end. Big Blue does, however, need to add more depth at defensive end. They signed Josh Mauro, another player with experience under Bettcher, but he’s already been suspended for the first four games of the 2018 season.

P.J. Hall may be coming from the FCS level, but he absolutely dominated while at Sam Houston State. Saying that Hall dominated while at Sam Houston State may even be an understatement. In four years, Hall amassed 284 total tackles, 86.5 tackles for loss, 42 sacks, nine forced fumbles, four interceptions, and 14 blocked kicks! The man simply could not be contained.

Although he played Div. I-AA football, Hall’s production warrants an NFL look. Hall wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine but he showed out at his Pro Day. He has great strength, quickness, and is extremely explosive. Hall is a bit undersized for an NFL defensive lineman, but he has enough power to not be overmatched. He’ll be able to line up next to another small school product who wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine in Harrison and the two of them will wreak havoc on opposing offensive linemen.

Hall is even being compared to Aaron Donald! This kid is the real deal and we’ll end up looking back and wondering how he lasted all the way until the third round.
