The New York Mets have decided to start the 2018 season with Tim Tebow promoted to AA Binghamton.

Tim Tebow had a highly unsuccessful Spring Training for the New York Mets. He injured his ankle tripping over a sprinkler in the outfield. In seven games he went a whopping 1-18 with 11 strikeouts. This sounds like a player that needs a lot more seasoning before they can move up the ranks, does it not? If anyone else looked at that stat line, would they be thinking any other way? Probably not.

Well, the Mets are not like every team. Sandy Alderson and the Mets have decided that those statistics warrant a move up. Tim Tebow is going to start the 2018 season playing for the Mets AA affiliate on Binghamton. He and his .226 batting average from last season are apparently ready for the next rung of pitching. At least Sandy Alderson and company think so.

As always, Tebow is excited:

"“I’m excited to take the next step in my baseball career by playing for the Rumble Ponies,” he said. “I look forward to getting to play in front of the Binghamton fans and around the Eastern League.”"

You have to give him that. He’s always excited, he’s never unhappy about what he is doing. It’s really no wonder that people think he is a great person to be around. The whole ballplayer thing, however, is proving to be a different story despite what Alderson believes.

1-18. Let that ring in your head. 11 strikeouts. Keep that there as well. That means he struck out 61% of his at bats during the Spring. That is in no way, shape or form deserving of a promotion. No other player would be promoted when sporting those numbers. Only Tim Tebow, and we all know why.

It’s time that the Mets admit why this is happening. Just say it, Tim Tebow is here to sell tickets. Period. By the time this guy COULD be ready for the big leagues, at this rate he will be 33 years old minimum. It’s for ticket sales and that’s all. Just admit. It would still be dumb but at least they would earn the fans respect by being honest.
