The New Jersey Devils did it again on Tuesday night by coming back to beat the surging Hurricanes late in the 3rd period.

The New Jersey Devils keep selling me their narrative. They just refuse to die. There are not many other ways to put it.

On Tuesday night, the Devils continued to tell their happy story. The Hurricanes are not the opponent to praise but they are still playing spoiler. The Devils held them off and escaped with another win. It was not pretty but it counts.

The Devils kept coming back and managed to snipe a goal with just over a minute left to win it.

More from Empire Writes Back

It is unreal at this point. Every team above the Devils in the Eastern Conference playoff race remains hot just like them. All the while the Florida Panthers are coming for them all. The room for error went from large to small quickly.

Turns out, the Devils do not need any room for error anyway because they are not making any. Tuesday’s win was yet another saga in the “we won’t die, it’s us vs the world, just keep swimming” style of play that has told the tale of their 2017-2018 season.

One win vs a team the Devils are better than even on paper might not reveal a ton but the timing does.

The upcoming schedule does not favor the Devs. A slate of conference, but mostly division, games remain. The Devs do sit three points up but the Panthers have two games in hand.

The Hurricanes were coming but their loss in the Rock pretty much shattered any chance they had.

The New Jersey Devils love being the underdog. I have gotten into this so many times now. But how hot they remain, and how little pressure they feel with the playoffs just days away is incredible.

Next: Devils embrace the underdog role

They are such a young team. A team no one expected to hang on. Well, they play like veterans and are hanging on.

One or two more games without any points could bury them and they can miss out on the playoffs. But at this point, I have seen nothing from them that tells me they will miss the playoffs.

Even if they do not win many more games they deserve some help through the Panthers losing.

This team is fun to watch. Grinding out win after win and getting each one in such a different, grandiose style is doing wonders.

So, buckle up Devil enthusiasts these last six games are going to be a wild ride. Tuesday’s win should give you confidence.
