There’s one way to get LeBron James to come to the New York Knicks and that’s stroke his ego.

Derek Jeter, Reggie Jackson, Phil Rizzuto, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, etc., all have one thing in common. They’re all greats in the history of the New York Yankees. The problem is it’s a long list, and none of them is the Yankee. Each one is the man of his era, but not of the franchise. If LeBron James were to come to the Garden and deliver a championship, he’d be the greatest of the New York Knicks. He’d surpass Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, and even Willis Reed.

If James brought the city a basketball world championship he’d truly be king, more than Jeter, Ruth, Maris, and all the Yankees combined. He’d be on par with the great Mark Messier and Joe Namath.

We live in a “what have you done for me lately” society, and bringing a championship to one of the founding members of the Basketball Association of America would do wonders for the career of LBJ.

On April 12, 1994, Mark Messier led the New York Rangers into New Jersey to take on the Devils in a must-win game, and he guaranteed victory. Not only did the Rangers win the game, they went on to win the Stanley Cup, after 54 years without one.

The New York Knicks have yet to reach the half-century mark for a championship drought but fans are growing impatient. The Knicks need LeBron and there should be one way to get him to New York: Mark Jackson.

LeBron James has never played for an established NBA coach. They all turned out to be good coaches while coaching him, but none had any prior head coaching experience. Jackson could be his first.

The combination of Jackson’s defensive wizardry and the offensive prowess of James on the floor could be a match made in heaven. Not only that, if it brought a championship to New York, James would not only be the greatest Knick of all-time but maybe even finally get the credit he deserves for being the greatest player of all-time. Bringing titles to Cleveland and New York would have to cinch it.

So, bring in a good coach and the lure of being a hero in NYC. That’s got to at least entice the King a little, right?
