Days are dark in The Garden right now and the New York Knicks are a primary reason for that. The most recent string of losses is not ideal but indicates that it is time for the Knicks to go all in … on losing.

Call me crazy, but this is not another tale in the tanking debate. This is just something to think about. The New York Knicks are bad, like, terribly bad right now.

Although they are not the worst team, they have some time to get there. If they keep playing like this, they very well might get there.

After losing to the Mavericks at home, the Knicks showed the basketball world how doomed they are.

The bad news is that the product is unwatchable for Knicks fans. Add on the visible absence of Kristaps Porzingis, which is getting even more unbearable, and there are not many reasons to watch this year.

There is good news though. The Knicks are finally playing bad enough to have a real chance at a solid pick in the NBA lottery.

More from Empire Writes Back

The New York Knicks literally just lost to a team at home who legit got in trouble for tanking. It really is a wild time for the NBA.

But that is the catch. The Knicks always start off decent then plummet down the stretch then win just enough games to stand no real chance at a high (top-three) draft pick. Considering this team just lost to a team who is trying to lose themselves, that might not be the case anymore.

The Knicks do not even have to admit they are tanking. They are so far out of a groove right now that it does not even matter.

Aside from the fact that James Dolan can afford the exuberant fine for saying so, they literally are bad enough.

However, Garden faithful, this is a blessing in disguise. The Knicks might finally get a solid lottery pick. Before Thursday’s game against the Sixers, the Knicks are four games up from last place in the Eastern Conference. There is little room for error. At this rate, the Knicks need a lot more losses.

Do not hang your heads too low, Knick fans. This might finally be the year your team is bad enough to break into one of those high lottery picks. In the new NBA, that is incredibly valuable.
