With the New York Jets now picking third and primed to draft a quarterback, the New York Giants continue to see their second overall pick increase in value.

The New York Jets moved up from the No. 6 pick in the NFL Draft to the No. 3 pick on Saturday morning, according to the team. In the trade, the Jets swapped first-round picks with the Indianapolis Colts and sent the Colts two second-round picks this year and a second-round pick next year. This is good news for the New York Giants.

Giving up so much just to move up three spots means one thing: the Jets are drafting a quarterback. There are also plenty of people (including me) who think that the Cleveland Browns will still spend the first overall pick on a quarterback, despite trading for Tyrod Taylor.

If a team like the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, or Arizona Cardinals want to draft one of the top quarterbacks, they’ll have to get in front of the Jets. In order to do so, they’ll have to give Dave Gettleman and the New York Giants a call.

More from New York Giants

The main purpose of the Jets going from No. 6 to No. 3 is to jump the Broncos at No. 5 and also make sure they are in front of the Browns when they make their second pick at No. 4, just in case they take Saquon Barkley first overall. If the Broncos want to counter and jump back in front of the Jets, they’ll have to give the Giants a king’s ransom. If the Bills want to get ahead of their division rivals, they’ll have to offer up their two first-round picks (No. 12 & 22) plus plenty more.

The Colts got three second-round picks to move back just three spots. That gives a blueprint for a Giants-Broncos trade and also means the Giants could really set themselves up for the future if they traded back as far as 12 with Buffalo.

As the Giants look less and less likely to draft a quarterback of their own, the quarterback craze that will ensue at the top of the draft stands to benefit Big Blue. I understand that if Cleveland takes a quarterback first overall, many think the Giants would be stupid to pass on Barkley. However, if the Broncos offer their second-round pick, both of their third-round picks, and a future draft pick, the Giants would be stupid to not at least listen.

Who knows how draft day will play out? But as teams all around the NFL look for their franchise quarterback, the value of the No. 2 overall pick continues to rise for the New York Giants.
