New York Jets: Teddy Bridgewater and Trumaine Johnson set to sign with team
New York Jets make two moves, reportedly agreeing to terms with Teddy Bridgewater and Trumaine Johnson.
The New York Jets have heated up a little bit in this crazy game we call free agency. They have reportedly made two moves, with the first being one we talked about earlier today. Here it is courtesy of Chris Mortensen:
So the Jets now have four quarterbacks on the roster with Bridgewater, Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg. We all know that the days of the latter two names are numbered. One or both of them will be out the door quickly. Even with the signings we can still expect the team to select a quarterback early in the draft. Make no mistake about it, the Jets are not with the quarterback room.
As I said earlier today, this is a boom or bust move. It will be very interesting to see the structure of the contract because whether or not he Bridgewater return to form still remains to be seen. It could be brilliant or it could be a waste of time.
In other news, the Jets have agreed to terms with a big-ticket item:
Now we are talking. This move is a thrill to read about as the Jets appear to have landed the top cornerback on the free agency board. He marks a huge step up from Morris Claiborne who put in half of a good season. He is often injured and Trumaine Johnson has picked off 18 passes in his career, taking three of them to the house. He is a ball-hawk as good as any one in the league and will be a fine leader for the Jets cornerback room.
He also fits in with the system like a glove.
Next: Crowell to the Jets for three years
Things really will get crazy when the signings become official on Wednesday afternoon. What else do the Jets potentially have up their sleeves? Stay up to date with us as free agency goes down. We will have the rumors and the moves all here as quickly as we can put them together. Exciting times!
