With Kirk  Cousins headed to Minnesota, the New York Jets have set their sights on plan B, and that apparently includes Teddy  Bridgewater.

The New York Jets are regrouping after the news came out that their prized target, Kirk Cousins, has chosen Minnesota as his next destination. The Jets are still in the market for a veteran quarterback. With Cousins, Case Keenum and Sam Bradford all finding teams, the veteran options are dwindling away. They are going to need a quarterback that can help mentor whomever they select in the NFL draft.

Who is next for the Jets? Well reports indicate that Teddy Bridgewater is on the radar, take a look:

Our buddy Rich Cimini, also of ESPN has indicated that the Jets have interest in Bridgewater. He could come in and be a guy that would compete with Josh Rosen or whomever else comes from the upcoming NFL draft.

More from Empire Writes Back

Bridgewater is a talented player and only turning 26 this season. In 2015 he was selected to the Pro Bowl after leading the Vikings to an 11-5 record. He also posted 14 touchdowns against only nine interceptions and a completion percentage of over 65%.

The trouble is that Bridgewater, as most of you already know, hasn’t play in a game in nearly two years. He blew out his knee and did so in a fairly gruesome fashion. There is a lot to question at this point about how healthy Bridgewater really is. Is he healthy enough to start again?

This is one of the biggest “boom of bust” situations that I can personally remember. Financially this shouldn’t be a very big investment. He hasn’t played in two years so he has no leverage to look for a lot of money. Truth be told, Josh McCown could be more expensive, even with Teddy being 25 right now.

He was also improving prior to his injury. A completion rate of 65% is at or near elite level. Sporting a quarterback with those numbers, and young? A Jets fans eyes would well up with tears. OK mine would. In a best case scenario, Bridgewater has the ability and the age to be a franchise quarterback and be a very economical investment at the present time.

But if the health isn’t there it could be a large waste of time. It could be money down the tubes against the cap. The best bet would be to sign him to a contract that guarantees him very little, if anything. That way the Jets only have an investment if he performs. They need to be able to get out easily if Bridgewater doesn’t have it.

Next: Cousins headed to the Vikings

On its face it really isn’t a bad idea. If the Jets do it right, Teddy Bridgewater is a low-risk, high-reward choice. Hopefully the Jets go into this with both eyes open. It’s a boom or bust situation and it could boom right in their faces.

In Macc we trust, right?
