Todd McShay released his third mock draft and he has Josh Allen going to the New York Jets at number six.

The NFL Combine is complete and the teams are starting to adjust their draft boards based on the performances in Indianapolis. The New York Jets are no different. We know they are looking at the quarterback field, especially if they lose out on Kirk Cousins. None of the other available quarterbacks would necessarily fit the bill as a franchise leader so this group of young performers have the eyes of Mike Maccagnan and company.

The mock drafts are continuing to come out left and right as well. It’s that time of year, as we all know. Post-Combine is always a popular time for people to release mock drafts while the prospects are fresh in everyone’s minds. Knowing the Jets need at quarterback combined with the quality of this class has made the experts very interested in what they are going to do with the number six pick.

More from Empire Writes Back

Most of us are familiar with Todd McShay and his work for ESPN. He and Mel Kiper Jr. have been covering the draft for many years now. Well McShay has released the third version of his mock draft (Insider subscription required). In it, he chooses Josh Allen for the Jets at number six.

Obviously he has the Jets missing out on Cousins. There would be no reason to move on Allen if Cousins is in the fold. His scenario, however, is interesting.

As Rich Cimini of ESPN notes, the only quarterback taken here prior to the Jets is Sam Darnold. That means Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield are both available when the Jets go on the clock. That makes things very interesting.

Rich is right that Allen is our general manager’s type of quarterback. He is a tall guy with a cannon for an arm. And granted, Allen looked far better during the Combine. His footwork was better and therefore so was his accuracy. There has been a great deal of buzz around him since the Combine ended for just that reason.

However, stats and film are much more important. Allen couldn’t even complete 60% of his passes in college. It’s going to get harder, obviously. The numbers for both Rosen and Mayfield blow his away. Rosen is by far the most natural passer in this draft. Mayfield is a very accurate passer, at least he was in college.

If this scenario were to play out, the Jets shouldn’t be fooled by the Combine. Allen is not the best quarterback in this draft, nor is he the second best. Keep him off the Jets roster.
