Scott Perry will lead the New York Knicks back by bringing in the best prospect available in the draft.

Scott Perry did something so unlike the New York Knicks of old, everyone decided to overlook it.  He didn’t blow it all up, he didn’t sell for the sake of selling and he removed the pieces that weren’t dedicated to the plan. Seeing Willy Hernangomez being trade was tough for a lot of fans. The questions for most Knicks fans is will you really miss him? Scott Perry was deliberate in what he wanted and stood pat at the trade deadline. He didn’t give up a first round pick, and he didn’t quit on Frankie our local Frenchman.

Bringing in two more lottery picks paves the way for the Knicks to starting grooming their young point guards and allowing them the chance to grow and compete. Everyone immediately assumed is was the end for last year’s lottery pick when in truth it could be the beginning. Courtney Lee wasn’t moved at the trade deadline but he could be traded during the draft for a mid first round pick depending on how he finishes the year and Frankie Ntilikina could very easily slide over to a more natural fit of being the off guard. His defensive excellence would give the Knicks a young option at the two position to pair with Tim Hardaway and  his shoot till I figure it out style.

While everyone is focused on Knicks tanking which will happen regardless at this point, the real focus should be on grooming the young talent on-board the team now, giving proper minutes each night accordingly to evaluate the team and the coaching staff. The point guard play will be crucial but allowing the big men such as Luke Kornet (that shining 7’0 G-league Star) to get work at the NBA level is just as crucial.

The young Knicks inspiring play this year will breed hope for the years to come. The focus will turn to the NBA Draft as it should at some point, but lets wait towards the end of the season. Cleaning up this roster the right way should remain the focus.

Removing the bad contracts that are left, and getting younger and more athletic is a great mission statement the Knicks and Scott Perry shouldn’t move away from. With K.P. out the Knicks should and will lean on the constant hand of Beasley. This will be the chance that he has been waiting for since he left Miami. If Hornacek can’t get the best out of him defensively with how strong he already his offensively, then Hornacek is not the guy for this mission of grooming and developing talent. (I don’t think he’s the right guy for this job anyway, but here’s his chance to prove me wrong) The absence of K.P. will give everyone a chance to see if they can be part of the future of the Knicks.

Next: Losing K.P. a blessing?

Think like Scott Perry

Methinks, you protest too much. Everyone is concerned with the Head Coach keeping his job, since the roster was not complete or designed to be competitive. Everyone also should remember this regime owes the head coach nothing, the job in the NBA is to do the best you can with what your given or don’t accept the job. The NY Knicks are not the Cleveland Browns and the job that you do in this town reflects everywhere you go. Scott Perry wants this roster to be full with competition so this way the new head coach (cough* Mark Jackson cough* ) can evaluate the film with his assistance and make the most worthwhile choice about what to add to the roster over the next four years to build a constant winner. Who will be part of the future roster will be up for debate but as I already stated this is an opportunity for everyone already with the Knicks to prove their worth. They all need to see it as such and carry themselves accordingly.
