The New York Knicks loss of Kristaps Porzingis could be a blessing in disguise.

The hearts of New York Knicks fans all but stopped the other night as their star hit the ground grabbing his knee. Kristaps Porzingis gave fans hope. The 7-3 Porzingis was averaging 22.7 points per game, the first time he has averaged over 20 points per game in his young career. After many years of waiting, the Knicks finally have a superstar that isn’t an ego problem. How IS Melo these days?

But on one dunk, the season ends for the Knicks. Porzingis tore his ACL. The season literally came crashing down to the floor. Understandably fans were in a panic. What is the team to do? Where are the points going to come from? The nerves about having little to no chance reared their ugly head.

On its face, of course this is bad. Whenever the leading scorer for any team goes down its bad. It certainly sounds the death bell for the current season. Barring a miracle the Knicks have no chance to sneak into the playoffs.

Don’t get me wrong, this is bad. Knick fans now have to suffer through yet another season of missing the playoffs. However, looking at it another way changes the loss of Porzingis into a blessing.

Instead of dwelling on the fact that the roster is weak, analyze the roster and see where it needs fixing. Porzingis being out exposes the fact that Phil Jackson put together a roster that can’t score. They have no legitimate scorers other than Porzingis.

In prepping for 2018-2019 Scott Perry must set a strategy in place. That strategy must lead this team to a sustainable roster. Knicks fans are tired of being out of the playoffs. They want to take that next step.
