Outside Help?

Free Agency: Sam Bradford, Case Keenum

NFL Draft: Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Mason Rudolph

In the very unlikely scenario where Manning gets traded (super slim chance), the Giants could look to a veteran on the free agent market. If that happens, coach Shurmur will likely look to someone he’s worked with before and there just so happens to be two of Shurmur’s most impressive projects on the market.

Shurmur helped Sam Bradford win Offensive Rookie of the Year with the St. Louis Rams in 2010 and break the NFL single-season completion percentage record (71.6%) with the Minnesota Vikings in 2016. Then, when Bradford went down with a knee injury in 2017, Shurmur took a career journeyman in Case Keenum all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

Hopefully, Shurmur can do wonders for Eli Manning. But if Eli isn’t around, Shurmur knows how Bradford and Keenum tick.

The more likely quarterback addition for the New York Giants will be through the NFL Draft. With the No. 2 overall pick, Big Blue is in prime position to find Manning’s successor.

More from New York Giants

Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold are widely considered the top two options and obviously, at least one of them will be available when the Giants are on the clock.

Baker Mayfield could go anywhere in the top half of the draft with his fate likely depending on how he does in interviews with teams. He may not seem like a Giants player with all the media attention that surrounds him. However, if he impresses John Mara and/or Dave Gettleman in an interview, the Giants could look at his talent and leadership and see the perfect player to have learn from Manning for a year or two.

Josh Allen has too many conflicting scouting reports to go second overall. However, if Big Blue trades back, he becomes an option later in the top 10.

If the Giants trade way back in the first round or take another position with their first pick, Mason Rudolph could be an intriguing option at the top of the second round. Rudolph has plenty of arm talent but could use time to learn how to play against non-Big 12 defenses.

Although there is more uncertainty at the New York Giants quarterback position than there has been in 14 years, Big Blue is in much better shape than a lot of NFL teams. Worst comes to worst, you run Eli Manning out there.

It should be an exciting offseason for the Giants and we can’t wait for it to get started!
