The New York Jets should not be fooled into trying to obtain Nick Foles.

New York Jets fans, and frankly fans everywhere rejoiced as the Philadelphia Eagles took down the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. It was a dream come true for most of us. If the Jets can’t win, at least Tom Brady and company couldn’t either, am I right? A big part of the reason was MVP of the game Nick Foles. He went 28-43 for 373 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught one on that brilliant fourth down call.

The Eagles have Carson Wentz waiting in the wings to reclaim his position as the starter. As good as Foles was he isn’t going to unseat Wentz. Do they keep Foles on the bench or do they look to move him? If a trade becomes a possibility, should the Jets try to make a move for Foles? The question came up after the game so it seemed like high time to explore the answer.

It’s easy to see why some fans might be interested. To see a player look that good in the big game leaves an impression. To his credit, Foles played out of his mind against the Patriots. He literally played the game of his life.

It’s easy to get wooed by a game like that but we must take a look at the totality of a player’s career. Even then, Foles appears to be better. His career numbers in a vacuum are not bad. His career record as a starter is 22-17, his completion percentage is 60.1% and his TD to INT ratio is 61-29.

However, that is in a vacuum.

The numbers here, however, are skewed. Remember 2013? That year Foles won eight out of ten starts and he threw 27 touchdown passes versus only two interceptions. If we remove that season, his ratio goes to 34 TDs vs 27 INTs. Not bad, but certainly not a guy to open the wallet and make a big trade for.

Remember regression to the mean. Foles will fall back to what he normally does and he is not the guy the Jets need to find.
