New York Mets silence David Wright for no apparent reason
The New York Mets have silenced captain David Wright until Spring Training, micromanaging for no reason.
There has been no better face of the New York Mets franchise in recent memory than David Wright. Whether it is on the field or off, Wright sets a perfect example for his teammates, and frankly for players around the league. For his entire career, David Wright has been the epitome of class. The Mets got it right in naming him the captain.
So after signing Todd Frazier, hearing what Wright had to say would be the next step, wouldn’t it? Apparently not if you are the Mets. Wright was on his way to continue his rehabilitation on Tuesday and had this to say (via the NY Daily News):
"“They said I can’t talk until everyone gets here next week,” Wright offered in the parking lot upon arriving in the morning. “They asked me again not to talk until they get down here,” Wright added from his front seat before departing First Data Field around 12:30 p.m."
Odd, huh? Very.

The term is micromanaging. Micromanaging is when the leader acts as if they need their hands on everything that happens. They don’t trust the employees to do their jobs. Instead, the leader tells every person what to do under every circumstance.
Doing it makes sense when the employees are irresponsible. When the employees are known to make mistakes, micromanage them. For example, if Johnny Manziel is on your football team, it might be smart to micromanage that player. The same goes for many players in the NBA, with all due respect to the fans and the players that are of high character.
But David Wright is the exact opposite of that problem. Wright would never, in any way shape or form, throw his team under the bus. He would have nothing but praise for Todd Frazier and the direction of the team. He would tell the world that he is working hard to come back. That is it.

To micromanage David Wright makes it clear that the Mets don’t get it. Trust your captain. If your captain wants to speak, let him. If he is trusted to be the captain he should be trusted to represent his views with the media. But when it comes to the Mets this should not be a surprise.
