Todd Frazier switches boroughs: Mets and Yankees fans reactions
By Sean Dyer
After playing with the New York Yankees for the last few months of the 2017 season, Todd Frazier has signed a two-year deal with the New York Mets.
Todd Frazier is staying in New York, but he’s switching boroughs. Frazier signed a two-year, $17 million deal with the New York Mets on Monday, according to Ken Rosenthal.
After playing for his hometown New York Yankees in 2017, Frazier will continue to play close to home. He’ll just have to take a different subway to get to work.
Affectionately known as “The Toddfather”, Frazier is a great clubhouse presence who loves to play baseball. Despite only joining the Yankees at the trade deadline last season, he became the face of the team down the stretch. After every run scored in the playoffs, the camera would immediately find Frazier to see his reaction.

Frazier also provides power to the lineup and above average defense at the hot corner. He has 30+ home run potential and makes barehanded grabs at third look easy.
The downside to Frazier’s game is his low batting average and high strikeout rate. However, home run-strikeout guys are commonplace in today’s MLB.
The fact that Frazier signed with the Mets is interesting. Many Yankees fans wanted a Bronx reunion and perhaps just as many expected it to happen. On the other hand, Mets fans don’t seem thrilled with the addition.
Joe Praino of The Dirty Sports Podcast doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about:
On the other hand, Adam Schein of Schein on Sports is a big fan of the move:
It’s safe to say Barstool’s KFC is not a supporter of the Todd Frazier signing:
What’s encouraging for Mets fans, though, is that Michael Kay, who knows Frazier well as the voice of the Yankees, thinks this was a great move by the Amazins:
Mets fans have mixed emotions about adding Frazier, but just about every Yankees fan is sad to see The Toddfather go:

Todd Frazier and the New York Yankees couldn’t come to a contract agreement most likely because the Yanks wanted to keep things to a one-year deal, whereas Frazier wanted more security. Frazier was able to get an extra year on his contract while still staying close to home. That is great for him.
The Yankees have Miguel Andujar slated to play third base this year and if he succeeds, he could be the future for New York at the hot corner. Brian Cashman also wants to keep third base open in 2019 to potentially pursue Manny Machado in free agency next offseason.
It’s tough to see Frazier leave for Yankees fans. However, in Cashman we trust. Cash just celebrated his 20th anniversary of being named Yankees general manager and perhaps he has other moves in mind for the hot corner.
Ken Rosenthal has reported that the Yankees are interested in Eduardo Nunez. Barstool’s Eric Hubbs also has a pretty good alternative in mind:
If the Yankees somehow signed Mike Moustakas to play third, fans wouldn’t miss Frazier quite as much.
Frazier is not as talented of an all-around player as Moustakas. However, the Mets are getting a quality player and fantastic teammate in Todd Frazier.
The biggest thing that Frazier brings to the table is his leadership and love for the game. It’s infectious. But it’s also hard to appreciate unless you experience it. Yankees fans know how fun Frazier is to watch. That’s why they are sad to see him go. Mets fans don’t know exactly what they’re about to experience. They’re just looking at the stats. That’s why they’re not overly excited.
