New York Jets: Final player evaluations at linebacker
Here we assign final grades for the 2017 New York Jets linebackers.
The evaluation period continues for the New York Jets. March 2 begins the two-day bonanza for college players known as the NFL Combine. Then comes the early Christmas party known as free agency followed by the NFL draft. For now, however, Mike Maccagnan and crew are in the stage of evaluating the players in-house. The team can’t know what they need until they know what they have.
So today, we continue the process with them. We started the process by reviewing the group of quarterbacks and running backs. We made our way through the offense, and our last evaluation was on the defensive line. Now there was a group that underachieved. “Led” by a guy that took his money and ran in Muhammad Wilkerson, this group never lived up to its reputation as one of the best in the league.
Kevin Greene may be a member of the Hall of Fame, but he is now also the linebacker coach for the Jets. As one of the best sack artists in league history he was looked upon to get that edge rush moving for the first time in a long time. Now, the Jets didn’t get where they wanted to as far as the edge rush is concerned, but we saw improved linebacker play from some. With that, let’s get to the grades for the linebackers.
