Pick Analysis. player. Scouting Report. OT. Oregon. Tyrell Crosby. 3. 31

We said that offensive tackle is the New York Giants biggest need so they add Tyrell Crosby here in the third round.

Crosby played both right and left tackle at Oregon but likely isn’t a day one starter on the blindside. He could start quickly if moved inside to guard (as Jon Dove suggests) but I think the Giants should give him a shot at right tackle.

There are concerns over the offensive system Crosby played in at Oregon. The Ducks’ offense called for a lot of quick passes, never asking Crosby to pass block for too long. However, when I watched the tape, I saw an offensive tackle who can move pretty well for his size (6’5″ 310 lb.).

Also, you have to give Crosby credit. He may not have had to block for too long on each play, but he kept his quarterback clean. Crosby did not allow a single sack his senior year, according to Pro Football Focus.

Despite not allowing a single sack, Crosby’s strength is actually in the running game. Just ask Royce Freeman.

Crosby has powerful hands and a strong punch at the point of attack. He can knock defenders off the line of scrimmage and move them as he pleases. Take a look at the 6:37 mark of this video against Arizona to see exactly what I mean.

Our friends at The Pewter Plank would love to have Crosby on the Buccaneers:

"The Buccaneers should count themselves lucky if Tyrell lands in their laps come draft day.  Getting a guy who is a terror in the trenches, but has none of the off-field concerns that come with that type of player is a rarity."

More from New York Giants

Even if Crosby ends up being an above-average guard in the NFL, that’s not a bad thing. Certainly, if the Giants take Quenton Nelson in the first round, you don’t want two guards with your first three picks. But if the second overall pick is used on someone else, Crosby ending up as a guard would be just fine.

I’m doubling up with Nelson and Crosby because I believe Crosby can stick at tackle. He may not be quick enough for the blindside but I saw an athletic enough big man who could be a mauler at right tackle.

Left tackle would still be a concern but perhaps Dave Gettleman can find one in free agency. Nelson and Crosby would be joining John Jerry, Brett Jones, and possibly Justin Pugh and D.J. Fluker as the New York Giants add more talent up front.

There we go! Another 2018 NFL mock draft in the books! What did we think?

As I said, I will switch things up as the offseason progresses. I’ll use different strategies and see how many different three-round combinations I can come up with.

Be on the lookout for my next installment of a New York Giants mock draft next week! But until then, let me know what you thought of this one in the comments below!
