The New England Patriots will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII and it couldn’t be worse for New York sports fans.

Anyone have any suggestions for what to do in two weeks instead of watching a New England Patriots-Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl? As a New York sports fan, this championship matchup is about as bad as it gets.

Boston vs. Philly. Ugh, it’s hard to even write.

New York Giants fans can’t stand to see the Eagles get a chance for their first Super Bowl championship. New York Jets fans can’t stand to see the Patriots win the AFC for seemingly the millionth time.

And the misery of this Super Bowl matchup spans beyond football. These rivalries run city deep.

Yankees fans hate the Red Sox. Mets fans hate the Phillies. Knicks and Nets fans root against the Celtics and Sixers. Rangers, Devils, and Islanders fans can’t stand the Bruins or Flyers.

And Boston and Philadelphia fans … oh those fans. If you’re a New York sports fan, you already know what I’m talking about so I won’t go into too much detail about Boston and Philly fans for fear of going too far.

Perhaps Giants fans would hate a Patriots-Cowboys Super Bowl matchup more. But from a city perspective, it doesn’t get any worse for New Yorkers.

Hopefully, there are funny commercials and Justin Timberlake puts on the performance of a lifetime. But what should we do during the game action? It seems un-American to boycott the game altogether.

Do we root for the Patriots to add another ring to the collection? Giants fans would at least be able to continue to brag that they’re the only team that can beat Brady and Belichick in the Super Bowl.

Or do we root for the Eagles and deal with their fans getting more obnoxious after finally winning a Super Bowl championship?

Most likely, we’ll pick sides for the Super Bowl based on our football allegiances. Giants fans will root for the Patriots and Jets fans will root for the Eagles.

However, as an entire New York fan base, this is a less than ideal Super Bowl matchup.

How you cope is up to you. I would suggest watching with a large group of friends and family so you can get lost in conversation, good food, and a beverage or two.

Good luck New York sports fans! Super Bowl Sunday could be a tough one. Dilly Dilly!
