Reese Era in Review: Revisiting the New York Giants 2013 NFL draft
Round 7, Pick 253: A.J. Bouye, Cornerback, Central Florida
Original Pick: Michael Cox, Running back, Massachusetts
There’s not much to say about Michael Cox. The running back out of UMass was pretty much a dart throw at this point in the draft and like most late round picks by Reese, he didn’t amount to much. Cox only lasted just two years with Big Blue and was waived before the 2015 preseason even began.
It was really hard to find a better player to in the draft at this juncture considering this was the second to last pick in the last round of the draft, but the Giants could have gotten an absolute steal in A.J. Bouye if they dipped into the eventual undrafted free agent pool.

It took a little bit of time, but Bouye has developed into one of the best shutdown cornerbacks in the game today, earning his first Pro Bowl selection after an excellent 2017 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Giants didn’t have anything special at corner outside of Corey Webster, Terrell Thomas and Prince Amukamara at the time, and Bouye would have provided both good depth and an eventual replacement for Thomas after his career was derailed by injury.
