New York Giants: Should they trade the second overall pick?
The New York Giants hold the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Should they keep it or trade it?
For the second time in franchise history the New York Giants have the second overall pick in the NFL Draft. The last time the Giants had the second pick they took a player you may have heard of, Lawrence Taylor. However, this time it might make more sense to trade this pick.
The Giants do not need to draft a quarterback in Josh Rosen, they have a backup quarterback in Davis Webb who could potentially be the future beyond Eli Manning. We have yet to see the potential Webb has so why potentially waste your second overall pick on a player you may not need.
The Giants biggest struggle is their offensive line, and that has been the case for years. It would almost be a waste of a pick to use the second overall pick to draft an offensive lineman, so why not trade back and get something for this pick.

After cutting Bobby Hart the Giants need a decent offensive lineman more than ever. With players like Orlando Brown and Mike McGlinchey available in this draft the Giants could finally get a player that could make a difference.
If the Giants were to trade their second overall pick to a team such as the Raiders, Dolphins or Bengals who hold picks 10-12, they could get Brown or McGlinchey. The Raiders and Dolphins are two teams that may make the most sense so that they could fill their respective needs.
While the Raiders do have Marshawn Lynch, one would think he will only be there for another 2-3 years, if that. With that being said they could have a chance to get one of the best running backs we’ve seen in quite a few years in Saquon Barkley. Or they could get a defensive back in Minkah Fitzpatrick.
The Dolphins on the other hand have a chance to get a quarterback like Josh Rosen or a running back in Saquon Barkley, both of which they could seriously use. While Ryan Tannehill should be back this season none of us know if he will stay healthy. With that they could use a quarterback such as Josh Rosen.
As for Saquon Barkley, the Dolphins traded Jay Ajayi this past season and they were left with Kenyan Drake who was no more than average in the remaining games following the trade of Ajayi.
Potential Trades:
If the Giants do end up trading their 2nd overall pick, it will look somewhat like the trade the Browns and Eagles made in 2016. The Browns traded the Eagles their second overall pick in exchange for the 8th overall pick that year, a 3rd round pick that year, a 4th round pick that year, a 1st round pick in 2017 and a 2nd round pick in 2018.

This trade would benefit both teams in both potential trades. If the Raiders were to make that trade Oakland would be able to draft Saquon Barkley, or potentially Minkah Fitzpatrick. If the Dolphins were to make that trade Miami would be able to draft either Josh Rosen or Saquon Barkley, both of which would be a big addition.
The Giants on the other hand would get the chance to fill holes on the offensive line with either Orlando Brown or Mike McGlinchey.
