The New York Jets have extended the contracts of both Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan.
These two guys have reason to be embracing as their days with the New York Jets have been extended. The team just announced that they have presented contract extensions to both head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan. No terms were released, though sources have told Rich Cimini of ESPN that the extensions are worth two years.
Here is the statement from CEO Christopher Johnson, per the team release:
"“We are very happy to have extended both Mike and Todd. During their time here, they have worked together to help the organization build a foundation on which to grow,” Jets CEO Christopher Johnson said. “They are identifying, developing, and getting productivity out of our players. I believe we are headed in the right direction. This provides us continuity and stability as we continue to move this team towards sustained success. We still have a lot of work to do and I am excited to work closely with both of them as we move forward.”"
There you have it. So, what do we think?
It’s easy to understand why some fans will be up in arms about this. The “scouting guru” Maccagnan has not hit on a quarterback selection in three separate drafts. The Jets have endured back to back losing seasons for the first time since the days of Rich Kotite. Wanting a new regime in here to start fresh does have logic to it.

However, the argument for continuity is also a good one. The Browns make regime changes ever 2-3 years. How has that worked out for them? They still can’t get out of their own way despite high draft picks every single season. A franchise needs to show some stability and this move brings a whole heap of that.
There also is a young core to be excited about on this roster. If we are going to grade lower for not finding a quarterback, we have to give credit for the lesser moves. Robby Anderson was a great find, as was Elijah McGuire. Darron Lee may be coming into his own, and Demario Davis was reacquired at the right time. They have earned one more draft.
They can be fired if it doesn’t work out.
