Who earned their wings for the New York Jets in the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers?

The New York Jets came to play, on defense.  Anytime you hold a team like the Chargers to 14 points you should win the football game. Unfortunately for New York, the Jets got nothing going on offense and the two touchdowns held up. The Jets lost to the Chargers 14-7.

13. Final. 7. 30. 14

Despite the fact that the Jets were never really going to win this one, we have wings to hand out. It wasn’t all bad, though one of the wing-earners will be a surprise. For anyone who hasn’t seen this series, wings are game balls. Let’s see who the winners are:

More from Empire Writes Back

BILAL POWELL: The Jets have had difficulty running the football all year long, so seeing Powell have a big day was encouraging. Against the Chargers, he ran the ball 19 times for 145 yards and a touchdown. Powell is an explosive back that shows it every time he touches the ball.

DEMARIO DAVIS: We have talked many times about the improvement of Demario Davis but it deserves repeating. He simply doesn’t get beaten like a drum in the passing game anymore. When he has to deliver a hit he does it with gusto. Against the Chargers he notched six total tackles, five solo.

Davis absolutely laid someone out after a short pass during this one that made you jump out of your seat. He is finally coming into his own.

LAC EDWARDS: It’s not often we give the game ball to the punter and it’s not usually a good sign when we do. Be that as it may that is exactly what we are doing. Edwards had a solid game turning the field over for the Jets. Five out of nine punts were downed inside the 20 and he averaged 43.6 yards per punt.
