New York Knicks Draft Prospect to Watch: Gary Trent Jr.
The college basketball season is in full swing, which means it is time to start looking at the future of the New York Knicks. Who could be the next franchise player? Who could join Kristaps Porzingis and bring the Knicks back to the promised land?
Right now, the New York Knicks have the 12th best record in the league which means, if the season were to end today, they would have the 18th overall pick. With that being said, the player I have chosen is someone who I believe will be around come the 18th pick.

While the Knicks do have Tim Hardaway Jr., Gary Trent Jr. has the potential to be one of the steals in the 2018 draft. With the Duke Blue Devils this year, Trent is averaging 13.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
The Knicks have a few decent shooting guards as they have Tim Hardaway Jr., Jarrett Jack, Courtney Lee, and Ron Baker. However, Trent can fill multiple roles and can adapt wherever he is placed.
In Duke’s lone loss this season against Boston College, Trent went for his best game of the season with 25 points while also grabbing three rebounds. Trent has the ability to take over a game when his team needs him most. Without Trent, Duke would have lost that game to Boston College by 15+.

Coming out of high school, Trent was the No. 8 overall recruit in the ESPN top 100 rankings and he is proving why this season. In any game, Trent has the ability to be the star, or he can be a role player. Trent is currently playing as a forward but he is normally a shooting guard.
Due to the fact that the Blue Devils still have Grayson Allen, it would be tough for Trent to start at shooting guard but he can fill that role. When Trent gets drafted to the NBA, he can play at either the shooting guard position or the small forward position.
In addition to that, he could start or come off the bench so he is a very versatile player. Trent is a 6’5″ shooting guard who can grab rebounds like any other forward.

Trent is one of the best all-around players who will be in next year’s draft, and if he is available when the New York Knicks are on the clock, they should take a serious look at him.
