There are no guarantees in the NBA Lottery and the New York Knicks don’t look interested in gambling.

The New York Knicks are playing hard and new GM Scott Perry loves every second of it. With the Knicks currently fighting to move further above that .500 mark, the Knicks will continue to feed off Enes Kanter’s energy and look to make the playoffs.

Most will condemn Scott Perry for not blowing this team up at the first sign of success because they want one of the top talents in the 2018 NBA Draft but it would be the wrong move to hope your team plays horribly for the sake of playing horribly. Here are three quick reasons why Scott Perry may be on to something that the New York Knicks haven’t had in over 25 years.

As my younger brother Mike so eloquently said, “the New York Knicks are playing like a damn team and winning!!” Yes, these Knicks seem to be coming together relatively nicely and it is not going unnoticed by the rest of the league. They may not be a team full of superstars but they have a good group of starters and a nice mix of role players. The better they play, the easier each member of the Knicks will make Scott Perry’s job and that will ultimately make the Knicks better.

This organization isn’t looking to lose, they’re not interested in just getting by, they have a sense of direction. They don’t have a plan for one year to make the playoffs but a plan to consistently build a winner. That hasn’t been seen in a long time. There have been front office members who haven’t been willing to go through the growing pains that come with a young team and other front office personnel who refused to let coaches coach and players fit in a scheme that matches them. This seems to be a team willing to let every member of the staff do their job.

Scott Perry is a bright GM. The Knicks are winning now but if things tail off or some of the players on one-year deals who are lighting it up won’t re-sign with the Knicks, he can begin flipping players for true value instead of giving them away like previous GMs have done. The lottery is no guarantee but bringing in multiple first-round picks can bring an influx of talent. This is far from Scott Perry’s final product that he wants to bring to the Garden.

The New York Knicks will have some assets to make strong trades with and will have a blueprint set by their baseball counterparts on how to do it. The team has been fighting strong all season and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes.
