New York Jets: Five players to build upon for the future
Austin Seferian-Jenkins
Austin Seferian-Jenkins hit rock bottom with the Buccaneers. He was underachieving on the field. He flashed but never reached that potential. He had injury problems that hampered his progress. Finally, he had trouble with alcohol. After all it was a DUI arrest that led to his release from the Buccaneers. He was brought on by the Jets in 2016 to get a second chance to live his NFL dream.
Unfortunately for ASJ, Chan Gailey’s offense didn’t involve the tight end very much, so he only managed ten catches last year. The offense was built around the big bodied Quincy Enunwa and really didn’t have much use for the tight end. What Austin decided to do was turn his life around. He got clean and he lost weight. He came to camp looking and moving better than he had in years.
The result has been a rebirth of Austin Seferian-Jenkins. In 15 games he has hit a career high of 46 receptions, to go along with 336 yards and three touchdowns. He really should have five touchdowns but that has to do with another discussion regarding the referees and the ridiculous catch rule. The bottom line is Seferian-Jenkins is only 25 years old and is finally showing the world why he was a second round draft choice. He will make this team better moving into the future.
