Demario Davis

Who says you can’t go home again?

When it comes to Demario Davis, the answer is you absolutely CAN go home again. We remember when Davis joined the team. He looked like a guy lost, especially in pass coverage. He could lay some wood on a guy but he couldn’t stay with any running back or tight end looking for a pass. Davis looked like a headless chicken in that role to be quite honest. Nobody was upset when he was allowed to leave and ended up in Cleveland.

Davis was supposed to be the heir apparent to David Harris and he was proving to simply not be good enough, so he was gone. After one year in Cleveland exile, he was re-acquired in a trade for Calvin Pryor. The difference has been like night and day. Demario Davis is turning into the type of player the Jets can build around, which is especially nice considering the fact that Muhammad Wilkerson clearly cannot be trusted for the future.

Currently, Davis sits fourth in the AFC with 117 tackles. He has also been a surprise in the pass rush as he posted a career high of five sacks. In pass coverage, Davis hasn’t been perfect but he has posted a very respectable PFF grade of 75.5. He is becoming the player that really can start in the middle of this defense, along with Darron Lee, from now into the near future. Coming home again can work once in a while. Who knew?
