As disappointing as this season has been, the New York Giants have a chance to go from worst to first next season.

Every year in the NFL there are a few teams that go from worst to first. In the case of the New York Giants, I believe there is a great shot for them to go from worst to first next season.

If you look at just last year, there are a plethora of teams that went from a losing record to back in the playoff picture. Teams like the Jaguars, Chargers, Eagles, Panthers, and Rams prove this fact. Each of these teams finished worst or next to worst in their respective divisions in 2016.

Clearly, the New York Giants don’t have the playmakers they need this year as they are 2-10. Here are some of the areas they need to improve to get back to the top of the NFC:

First, the offensive line is a given. Ever since the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2011, the offensive line has been neglected. Since they have lost mainstays such as Chris Snee, David Diehl, and Shaun O’Hara, not much effort has been given to the line. Looking to the draft to get younger talent will help them for the future.

After fixing the offensive line, the man running behind them needs to be figured out. Have Orleans Darkwa and Wayne Gallman proven they can be a formidable duo to management? Or will they look to free agency or the draft again?

Next, the New York Giants need to look to improve their speed at the linebacker position. Looking around the NFL, it has turned to who has more team speed. Many teams are adding pass-catching running backs and speed tight ends. Playing against players such as Zach Ertz, Ezekiel Elliott, and Chris Thompson for the foreseeable future, the Giants need to upgrade at this position.

And finally, most importantly, the players need to once again buy into the system. During some games this year, it was clearly visible that the players just didn’t give their all. Bringing in a new regime at head coach and general manager can help that.

This defense has All-Pro playmakers who haven’t lived up to their potential this year. And this offense, once healthy at the receiver position, can add necessary pieces and cause havoc for opposing teams.

Next: What will the Giants do next?

This team has a great deal of talent. This is evident, as many experts picked this team to win the division and go deep into the playoffs. These are some reasons why the New York Giants can turn it around and once again be a dominant football team.
