The New York Giants have been hit hard by injuries this season, which is part of the reason that their record is 2-10. Jonathan Casillas is the latest player to go down with an injury.

The New York Giants placed linebacker Jonathan Casillas on injured reserve on Wednesday. Casillas has been dealing with a neck injury and did not play against the Oakland Raiders last weekend.

As reported by Paul Schwartz of The New York Post, the Giants signed wide receiver Darius Powe from the practice squad on Wednesday to take Casillas’ spot on the roster.

In eight games played this season, Casillas had 35 tackles (25 solo). After having one of the best years of his career last season, 2017 ended in disappointment for him. Casillas played in all 16 games during the 2016 season and amassed 96 tackles (61 solo). He also recorded 1.5 sacks.

Casillas is the final year of a three-year, $10.5 million deal. This means that his career with the Giants could be over. Especially if the Giants decide to begin rebuilding next season, there is a good chance that they will not attempt to re-sign Casillas.

With all of the injuries that the Giants have had to deal with this season, they really are limping to the finish line. Last week, Pro Bowl cornerback Janoris Jenkins was placed on IR because of an ankle injury. Earlier in the season, wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall got hurt in the same game. They were both placed on IR on Oct. 10.

The Giants injury report tells you everything you need to know about just how banged up they are right now. On Wednesday, Ralph Vacchiano of SNY tweeted out the full Giants injury report.

Health has been a major problem for the Giants for most of the season. No one could have predicted everything that has happened to them this year, between the injuries and the firings of head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese.

Needless to say, the New York Giants and their fans cannot wait for the 2017 season to be over.
