Other Draft Options

Baker Mayfield

Despite Baker Mayfield’s antics against Kansas, he’s still an extremely talented quarterback who will likely be picked in the first round.

Mayfield has a strong arm and can tuck it and run when needed. He’s an ultimate competitor who needs to learn to control his emotions.

Mayfield will spend the pre-draft process convincing NFL executives that he is not the next Johnny Manziel.

The New York Giants will be particularly cautious because of how they run their organization but if Mayfield can convince the Giants that his Kansas actions were just a lapse in judgment and New York trades back in the first round, Baker Mayfield could start for the Giants in 2018.

Josh Allen

Some scouts thought Josh Allen would have been the top quarterback prospect in last year’s draft. Instead, he returned to Wyoming but is still considered a first-round pick.

The New York Jets are said to be “in love” with Allen but the New York Giants could steal him if they wanted to. Allen will likely go somewhere in the top-ten and third overall wouldn’t be too big of a stretch.

At 6’5″ 233 lb., Allen has the size of an NFL quarterback. He needs to improve his accuracy but has a big arm and could be starting somewhere in the NFL in 2018.

Lamar Jackson

More from New York Giants

The 2016 Heisman Trophy winner’s NFL future is a bit of a mystery. Will the dual-threat quarterback’s career turn into that of Robert Griffin III or that of Deshaun Watson before his injury?

Lamar Jackson’s exciting playmaking ability will likely get him drafted in the first round. But will the New York Giants be the team to draft him?

That will depend on who is the Giants head coach/general manager. If either one thinks they could scheme the offense around Lamar Jackson’s strengths, he could be starting for Big Blue in 2018.

Mason Rudolph

Mason Rudolph was once thought of as a late round pick but has worked his way into the first-round conversation.

When looking at Big 12 quarterbacks, you can’t look too much into the stats because every team in that conference slings the ball around the field. However, Rudolph has improved every year and shows an accurate arm and good pocket presence.

He could be an option for the New York Giants if they trade back in the first round or if Rudolph falls into the second round.

If the New York Giants are committed to moving on from Eli Manning in 2018, there are plenty of replacement options in free agency and the NFL Draft.

Finding the right quarterback, however, will be the hard part.
