New York Knicks fans are very opinionated, cheering and booing almost equally throughout a season. Going back and forth is the burden of being a Knicks fan.

It’s no secret that New York City is perhaps the most difficult stage to play on in the NBA, and for good reason.  The bright lights, the swarming media, the pressure … but none of these elements amount to the most brutal and unforgiving part of playing in the Big Apple: New York Knicks fans.

Fans aren’t just the customer. And even so, the customer isn’t always right.

Sure, we all love seeing a big mouth overpaid free agent think he can be the savior for the Knicks, then get viciously booed for lazy, uninspired play by the fans … but don’t forget, Knick fans also once booed the Kristaps Porzingis draft pick. So when fans got upset about the blow out loss to Houston the other night, it has to be taken with a grain of salt …

Dear Knick fans, Be better! Really.

We all know that fans can influence their teams’ play.  So boo when it’s time to boo, and by all means, cheer when it’s time to cheer.

More from New York Knicks

Truth be told, being a Knick fan is as unique yet common as the families that destroy each other in political debates then hug it out over Thanksgiving dinner.  The friction is inevitable. You are allowed to piss and moan and berate the decisions of your beloved orange and blue.  You also have an obligation to let your friends who support other teams know that they can’t rip the Knicks — only YOU can do that.

Having said all of that, this message is for all of you who ripped the New York Knicks after their loss to Houston the other night:

Stop.  Just stop.

A Knick loss with no Porzingis and no Enes Kanter versus a full steam contending Rockets team isn’t something to cry about.  As a matter of fact, you should rejoice. Kyle O’Quinn had a huge double-double, racking in 20 points and 15 boards in a challenging matchup against Clint Capela. Even better, Willy Hernangomez actually got to see the hardwood.

This is going to take some time, and though you reserve the right to berate, this time, you don’t.

Chill. We got this.
