Who earned their wings for the New York Jets from the game against the Panthers?

The New York Jets beat themselves against the Carolina Panthers. They had more than one chance to win this game over the favored Panthers. Penalties and dropped passes killed their chances. The Panthers had their chances to take the Jets out of this one and they weren’t able to get that done either. The Jets hung around long enough to have a real shot at winning this one. Unfortunately, a lack of discipline got in the way.

With that said, we are still going through the weekly ritual of determining who earned their wings this week. For anyone who hasn’t followed, earning their wings is just our term for passing out game balls. Three players are selected each week as wing earners.

ROBBY ANDERSON: It’s not hard to fall in love with this kid, as he is emerging as an absolute superstar. The Jets have done well with undrafted free agent wide receivers in the past (hello Wayne Chrebet). However, the young man in his second year out of Temple University may have more talent than Chrebet ever did.

Robby Anderson is coming out of his shell and the game against the Panthers marked the fifth straight game that he posted a touchdown.  This time it was two touchdowns, marking Anderson‘s first multi-score game of his career. The final line for Anderson was six receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

JERMAINE KEARSE: It is a productive day when one receiver goes over the 100 yard mark. The day becomes very productive when multiple receivers accomplish the task. In addition to Anderson’s 146 yards, Kearse posted 105 yards on seven receptions, adding a touchdown of his own. He may not be needed to be the number one receiver anymore but Kearse is working out to be a perfect role player for this team.

DEMARIO DAVIS: Here is another returning member to the wings list. Davis gets to return because he gets the job done each and every time out. Against the Panthers he posted ten tackles (7 solo) to go along with one sack. Maybe he improved to prove the team wrong for sending him to Cleveland, but whatever Demario Davis did he did it right. He now looks like a linebacker who could be around for a while.
