Tony Peña

Tony Peña has been with the Yankees since 2006 serving as bench coach and first base coach separately. Peña has managerial experience as he was the manager for the Royals from 2002-2005 so he would not be jumping into something he has never done.

In his two full seasons and two short seasons as Royals manager Peña went 198-285, but never made the playoffs. Those Royals teams were not nearly as talented as this Yankees team is though.

In my opinion Peña would be the best option for the job. He has been with the team since 2006 so he knows how things are done with the Yankees and he has managerial experience. For these reasons I think we will see Tony Peña be hired as the 35th manager in Yankees history.

Jerry Hairston Jr.

ANAHEIM, CA – OCTOBER 20: Jerry Hairston /

Jerry Hairston Jr. played with the Yankees for part of that magical 2009 season when the Yankees won their latest World Series. While Hairston does not have any managerial or coaching experience he has been around the game enough to know what is going on. Since retiring in 2013 Hairston joined the pre-game and post-game shows for SportsNet LA.

Going in this route would be the riskier option. While Hairston was known as a utility player because he could play any position and he was very knowledgeable about the game and what to do, he does not have any coaching experience. If we chose to make Hairston our coach there would be a few learning bumps along the way.

Jorge Posada

More from Empire Writes Back

Jorge Posada was part of the core four and he played with the Yankees from 1995-2011. With the Yankees Posada managed to win five rings, so he knows what it takes to take a team to the highest level. Like Hairston Jr., however, Posada has no coaching experience and he has been out of the game for six years.

If we were to take the risk on Posada it would come with its fair share of learning bumps but I believe he would figure it out and would make for a great manager. Posada was a very smart ballplayer and as I said earlier he has won the World Series five times so he knows what it takes from a team to get there. He knows how to push players and he knows how to get results from players.

My Thoughts/Opinion:

In my opinion I think we should see Tony Peña be hired as the Yankees next manager. He has been with the Yankees as a coach of some form since 2006 so he knows what is going on. Of the three names I mentioned he is the only one who has coaching and managerial experience which makes him that much more desirable.

Next: Betances is too important to trade

I believe if we were to hire Tony Peña as the 35th manager in Yankees history we would see the best results. He saw this team this past season so he knows their potential, he knows they are on the footstep of the Yankees 28th World Series Title. I believe of the three names I mentioned, he can get the Yankees through that door the quickest.
