8. Changing of the Guard

The New York Yankees formed a dynasty in the 1990s built from a young core of players, including Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, and Bernie Williams.

The Yankees hope to now be building a similar core and a few players had 2017 seasons that showed they can be apart of the team’s future.

Didi Gregorius broke Derek Jeter’s franchise record for most home runs in a season by a shortstop when he hit his 25th homer of the year.

Gary Sanchez broke Jorge Posada and Yogi Berra’s franchise record for most home runs in a season by a catcher when he hit his 31st of the year. He would finish the season with 33 homers.

I’m certainly not saying that Gregorius and Sanchez are the next Jeter and Posada. They could be, but it’s way too soon to even consider that. What is certain is that Sir Didi and Kraken are fantastic ball players and are going to be at the center of the Yankees next dynasty.

With such an illustrious history, any time you see a New York Yankees record get broken it’s impressive, especially when names like Jeter and Posada are involved.

Didi Gregorius and Gary Sanchez had great 2017 seasons and should only continue to improve.
