After getting into an altercation with Ben McAdoo, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie left the New York Giants facility on Wednesday and has been suspended indefinitely by the team. Will this be the end of DRC’s time with Big Blue?

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan and Dan Graziano have reported that Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie left Sunday’s New York Giants game against the Los Angeles Chargers and went to the locker room after being dissatisfied with his playing time.

It was thought that the 2016 Second-Team All-Pro intended on leaving MetLife Stadium but DRC eventually returned to the sideline.

Ben McAdoo met with Rodgers-Cromartie on Tuesday and told the cornerback that he would be inactive for the Giants Week 6 matchup against the Denver Broncos due to his actions against the Chargers.

Rodgers-Cromartie certainly didn’t take the news too well. After showing up to the team facility on Wednesday for team meetings, DRC left while the defensive meeting was in progress, cleaned out his locker, and left.

The ten-year veteran returned to the Giants facility on Thursday, only to be welcomed back with an indefinite suspension. However, the NFL’s CBA only allows the team to suspend DRC for a maximum of four games. According to Bleacher Report’s Patricia Traina, after four weeks, if McAdoo still wants Rodgers-Cromartie off the team, he’ll have to be released.

In a year where Eli Apple has struggled, having Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the Giants secondary could have been important. At 0-5, however, New York’s season is just about over and McAdoo seems to be focused on sending a message to his players.

I think McAdoo’s strategy is more likely to backfire. He’s losing control of the locker room and the respect of his players. All of this drama could end up costing him his job.

As far as Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie goes, this could spell the end of his New York Giants career.

DRC is signed through 2018 and is set to count for $8.5 million against the salary cap next year. However, the Giants can cut him after this season with just $2 million of dead cap.

Going into 2017, it was thought by many that this would be Rodgers-Cromartie’s final season in New York. DRC was a Second-Team All-Pro in 2016 and fans still wanted him to take a pay cut this year.

With the contract extensions of Justin Pugh, Weston Richburg, and eventually, Odell Beckham Jr. and Landon Collins looming, saving money by cutting Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie just makes financial sense. He would also be entering his age-32 season in 2018.

Now that DRC is having issues with Ben McAdoo, his days with Big Blue could be coming to an end sooner than first expected.

Many times when there is a player-coach altercation, the player wins out and the coach has to find a new job. Interestingly, with this specific scenario, both Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Ben McAdoo could be looking for work next season.

However, there is a better chance DRC is cut midseason, whereas if McAdoo is relieved of his duties, he will likely be let go once this nightmare season is over.

The New York Giants organization is not used to making headlines for off-field issues and this one could result in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie’s days with Big Blue being numbered.
