The argument that the New York Giants should trade away star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is absolutely absurd and needs to stop.

On FS1’s Speak For Yourself, co-host Jason Whitlock said the New York Giants should not give Odell Beckham Jr. a long-term contract because he is a child who acts childishly.

Stop it. Get rid of OBJ? Have you watched Beckham play over the past three years?

Odell Beckham Jr. is the most dynamic playmaker in the NFL and carries the New York Giants offense. With Odell out in Week 1 and limited in Week 2, Big Blue’s offense was non-existent!

Everyone is outraged with his dog celebration, but what was he celebrating? Oh, that’s right, a touchdown! He would later add another touchdown on a sick one-handed grab.

In the above video, former NFL great Tony Gonzalez suggests that if the Giants can’t get a head coach who can control OBJ, they should trade him for draft picks and build up their offensive line.

More from New York Giants

Trade away your top offensive weapon so that Eli Manning has time to pass to receivers that lack the explosion of Odell Beckham Jr.? I don’t understand that logic.

Odell isn’t going anywhere. As long as he keeps scoring touchdowns, he can celebrate how he wants.

I understand that people calling Beckham selfish are referring more to the way he handled the reaction to his post-touchdown celebration.

His dog celebration drew a 15-yard penalty which hurt the team. Then when asked about it, Odell said he would do it again. People are, in turn, saying that OBJ does not care about his team.

I think this is an overreaction. Does Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle Alejandro Villanueva not care about his team because he stood outside the tunnel by himself during the national anthem?

Trust me, I realize these are significantly different scenarios, but both are motivated by the players’ individual beliefs and done without thinking about the team as a whole.

Odell Beckham Jr. revealed on Twitter that his celebration was in reference to President Trump’s “son of a bitch” comment. The President of the United States called NFL players “dogs”, so OBJ decided to act like a dog.

Did Odell deliver his message in the best way? No, but he should not be traded away because of it.

Record Sports’ Art Stapleton brought up a great point on Twitter Tuesday night. No one called for the Seattle Seahawks to trade Doug Baldwin after he pretended to poop a football in Super Bowl XLIX.

Is pooping a football not as offensive as peeing? It has to at least be a tie. Not to mention, Doug Baldwin was playing in the Super Bowl, being watched by the entire world.

Let’s also not forget that Odell Beckham Jr. is just 24 years old. He has plenty of maturing still to do but he also still has time to do it. Giving up on OBJ now and shipping him elsewhere would be a huge mistake.

He is an intelligent young man whose passion for the game can sometimes get in the way. However, attempting to bottle him up would destroy his game.

His success is fueled by his desire to be the best. The passion that draws a 15-yard penalty is the same passion that got him into the end zone in the first place.

The fact that potentially trading OBJ is even a topic of conversation blows my mind. The New York Giants should not and will not trade Odell Beckham Jr. and people need to stop bringing up the idea.
